This British Standard, a part of the BS 812 series, describes a method for the determination of the aggregate crushing value (ACV) which gives a relative measure of the resistance of an aggregate to crushing under a gradually applied compressive load.

An aggregate specimen is compacted into a steel cylinder fitted with a nofriction plunger. The specimen is then loaded via the plunger. The load crushes the aggregate to an extent depending on the crushing resistance of the material. It is measured by a sieving test on the crushed specimen and it is a measure of the aggregate crushing value (ACV).

Aggregate Crushing Value engineeringcivil. Procedure to determine Aggregate Crushing Value i) The aggregates passing through 125mm and retained on 10mm IS Sieve are ovendried at a temperature of 100 to 110 o C for 3 to 4hrs ii) The cylinder of the apparatus is filled in 3 layers, each layer tamped with 25 strokes of a tamping rod

Overview. The Los Angeles () abrasion test (Figure 1) is a common test method used to indicate aggregate toughness and abrasion characteristics. Aggregate abrasion characteristics are important because the constituent aggregate in HMA must resist crushing, degradation and disintegration in order to produce a high quality HMA.. Figure 1: abrasion testing equipment.

The LA abrasion method suffers from several drawbacks including the time needed to perform the test, the operational noise and dust and the space required by the machine. The objective of this study was to investigate whether the modified compaction method can be a suitable alternative for determining the LA abrasion value.

Note down the observations in the proforma then compute the aggregate crushing value. The mean of two observations, rounded to nearest whole number is reported as the "Aggregate crushing Value". Test with Nonstandard Sizes of Aggregates. If required, or if the standard size is not available, test may carried out with differicent gradings.

Jan 04, 2014· Procedure of testing Aggregate Crushing Value (ACV): 1. Make a sieve analysis and get sufficient amount of aggregate by using mm passing sieve and mm retained sieve. 2. After sieving fill the cylinder in thre layers by the aggregate and apply 25 blows by the tamping rod with a approximate height of 50 mm. 3.

Briefly explain the aggregate crushing value test procedure. What is the specified standard size of aggregates? How is the aggregate crushing value of nonstandard size aggregate evaluated ? Aggregate crushing value of material A is 40 and that of B is 25. Which one is better ~nd why? What are the applications of aggregate crushing test?

The aggregate crushing value (ACV) provides relative measure of the resistance of an aggregate to crushing under a gradually applied compressive load. Two versions available: 150 (standard) and 75 mm dia. The apparatus comprehend cylinder, plunger, base plate, tamping rod and measure.
